Meet Good Practice for Prize Draw Operator Without Adding Friction

Written by The OneID Team® | 28/04/26 12:19

The Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators code gives operators a clearer standard to work to ahead of the 20 May 2026 implementation date. Signatories are expected to have the code fully in place by then, with a focus on player protections, transparency, and accountability.

The code also makes clear that operators should only make prize draws available to players aged 18 or over and should implement a reasonable age verification process.

Build player protections into the experience

The Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators code expects practical protections. That includes a robust complaints process, a £250 monthly cap on credit card entries, no credit card payments at all for instant win prize draws, and either operator-set or player-set monthly spend limits.

Players should also be able to suspend or close their accounts, and operators should have systems to spot signs of harm and signpost support where needed.

Make your free entry route and draw mechanics easy to understand

Transparency is one of the clearest parts of the code. Operators should explain how each prize draw works, state that prizes are awarded by chance, make the free entry route prominent before purchase, and ensure paid and free entries have an equal chance of winning.

The code also expects operators to explain the likelihood of winning where possible, publish how draws are conducted, and award the advertised prize promptly rather than reducing value or cancelling because of low ticket sales.

Publish how you comply with the code

The accountability section requires more from internal processes. Operators should monitor compliance, act quickly where gaps are found, and publish the measures they have in place for player protections, transparency, and accountability on their website. DCMS will oversee the code and review how well it is being implemented.

For operators reviewing how to meet these expectations, age checks are one of the most crucial points where compliance and customer experience meets.

OneID®  supports privacy-first age verification through mobile networks and UK banks, so users can confirm eligibility without scanning documents or going through awkward camera steps. OneID®'s seamless flow is built for highly effective age assurance, and has passed 10 million verifications in recent months.

If you’re tightening up your approach to the Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators code, now is the time to review your age verification journey and make sure it is both compliant and easy to complete.
