Mobile Number Age Check - User Guide

Learn how to use to quickly and privately prove your age using your mobile number.

Some organisations are required to verify that you’re over 18 to meet the UK Online Safety Act requirements. OneID® makes this quick and secure - No ID uploads or long forms needed.

With our Mobile Network Operator (MNO) method, we work with your mobile provider (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and more) to confirm your age or identity. We’re certified by the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology under the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework, so your data is always handled safely.

How It Works

  1. Enter your mobile number: We’ll verify your number so please enter the correct one.
  2. Enter the 6-digit code: We send an SMS to your mobile number, this ensures no one else uses your number.
  3. Get verified: OneID® seamlessly checks with your mobile network provider if you’re over 18.
  4. Create a passkey : To skip this age check in the future, you can create a passkey. OneID® will then save and encrypt your age confirmation, and only you can unlock it with your face, fingerprint, or device PIN - the same way you unlock your mobile phone.
  5. Share the age check result with your trusted business: With OneID®, you have visibility and control over your data. You'll see your verified details (e.g. 18+ confirmed), and decide if you want to share it with your trusted business.
  6. Passkey login: If you created a passkey, your mobile phone will ask you to login using the passkey (face, fingerprint or PIN). This simply means you're decrypting your age information to be shared.

Your Privacy Comes First

  • Your data stays safe - only you can unlock it as you unlock your mobile phone.
  • OneID® never sees your personal information or activity online – we don’t know what you are watching, buying or doing online.
  • We simply act as a secure bridge between your mobile network provider and the website you’re using, letting you collect and share a confirmation that you are over 18 – nothing else.

Who Can Use This Method?

✅ Works with major UK and US mobile network operators.
🚫 Not available for pay-as-you-go or pre-paid mobile connections.

If Your Operator Isn’t Supported

If you own a pay-as-you-go or pre-paid connection or is unable to verify using your phone number, you might be requested to perform bank verification. If you are unable to verify using either of these options, you’ll need to contact the website’s support team for other verification options (like uploading an ID document).

Wondering why you might have received an SMS you didn’t request?

Sometimes this happens if someone accidentally types in the wrong phone number while using OneID®. Rest assured, this doesn’t mean anything malicious has happened, and your personal information or identity has not been compromised.

If you'd like us to check whether your number exists in our system and remove it if it does, just reach out to askus@oneid.uk with your phone number along with country code and our support team will be happy to assist.

How we handle your phone number
We do not store any phone numbers unless the age check is completed and a passkey created.

If you have any further questions on your data or would like to request account deletion please reach out to our support team at askus@oneid.uk and we will be happy to assist.
